Very insightfull article ! I like the way twitter has been mentioned, BTW.

First time I find a mention of a microblog in an article not about microblogging or social networking but on a larger topic.

Conclusion: twitter/microblogging has gone mainstream.

Internet services are living things,

• they interact with their environment,

• they consume energy and

• they live on through their genes: the basic concept of the service itself.

Some examples:

• Netscape died this month. But its gene still lives in the next generation of Firefox.

• Napster did die too, but it still has revolutionized the music industry. Court case against it, have been a Pyrus' Victory.

• Altavista, DMOZ, Second Life might be dying at the moment.

• Del.icio.us is alive and kicking.

• Ning.com and Google prosper like Knol is announced(see the Ning based social platform Knolstuff ).
