I lived in Colombia (South America) for a couple years. While there I noticed that people wouldn't a take seat if it was still warm from someone else. This was especially true on buses. If the bus was really busy, they would step in front of the seat (wait 30 seconds), pat the seat (wait a little longer) then finally sit down gingerly.

Why? The locals insisted that sitting on a warm seat would give you hemorrhoids.
